Caleigh and Ryan credit an online dating service for bringing them together. Our first date was in September of 2017 at a pub in Toronto where we connected over our common love of baseball, draft beer and club sandwiches. When we first started dating, we would have a couple of dates a week, but we both knew very early on that we were perfect for each other. One afternoon, we took a walk on a trail together and got lost... but left with a feeling that somehow in getting lost together, we had found something precious and permanent.

Ryan’s initial plan was to propose during our annual visit to the Christmas Market in Toronto. Unfortunately, the custom-made ring was not ready quite in time for that. As a result, Ryan proposed just prior to his family’s annual Christmas party. Caleigh was still shocked, so the desired effect was achieved!

When it came to the wedding planning, we were partners throughout the process which made the journey even more enjoyable.  We began with scoping out a few venues in various locations. Georgian Bay holds a special place in our hearts as we both have family in the area.  We fell in love with Alpine Ski Club. The gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows allow nature to be center stage of the reception. The views of the water, the outdoor and indoor space, the incredible bar, and the endless possibilities of how we could make the space exactly what we wanted it to be made Alpine an easy choice.

Although we didn’t have an initial ‘theme’ for our wedding. The colours we chose were “Cabernet” and “Champagne”, so we often joked that our theme was “We’re getting married… And we like wine.”  Amanda Jerome and Art in Bloem worked this into a classy theme for the wedding. From the colour of our flowers, to the wine cork place card holders, our love of the rich autumn colour and our love of wine was prevalent in the decor. We wanted a warm, love-filled event with family and friends with excellent food and drinks. The candlelight, the exquisite flowers, the table linens and the elegant centerpieces were crucial in creating the desired mood for our reception.

In the days leading up to the wedding, Caleigh was focused on the last-minute details to ensure the wedding day was stress free. On the day of the wedding, she was elated and overwhelmed at having so many loved ones in the same room. For Ryan, there were no real nerves about the day, since he’d never been so sure of anything in his life. The day after the wedding, we were exhausted!  We celebrated our first day of marriage by wandering around Blue Mountain Village, basking in the beauty of a perfect autumn day.

The biggest stress for us was accepting that despite planning and preparations, things happen. A few guests unexpectedly didn’t show, which was disappointing. We also found ourselves being pulled in several directions. While we did our best to speak with each guest and ensure everyone was enjoying the evening, having one-on-one time with everyone may not have been realistic!   We were not stressed about the flow of the day or evening as we had full trust in Amanda. Having an excellent planner to ‘run the day’ made our wedding as stress-free as possible.

A favourite memory of the day for Caleigh was walking down the aisle towards Ryan. I loved seeing the look of love on his face... I couldn’t wait to marry him. The love I felt from all sides of the church was all-encompassing!

For Ryan, the ceremony itself was an incredible rush; seeing the doors open and Caleigh began to walk down the aisle towards me is something I will never forget. Also, Caleigh had written a song about me that she performed piano and sang at our reception in front of our guest, this was an unbelievably moving experience.

Caleigh’s best advice to brides would be expect and accept the unexpected before it happens and focus on being present in the moment with your true love on the day you’ve envisioned. It goes by SO quickly!  Surrounding ourselves with incredible vendors made for the most stress-free and enjoyable day possible!
