One wintry night in January my friend asked if I would join her at a bar to watch her favorite band. I was reluctant at first, but she ensured me it would be a great night. It sure was! That was the first night that Rob and I met. There was something instant and special about our connection. Some call it love at first sight! After that night we were inseparable.

It didn’t take long (9 months to be exact) for Rob and I to realize that this is true love.

Rob and I decided to spend Labour Day weekend at his hunt camp, up North. We use it as a cottage getaway throughout the summer months. Once we arrived and settled in, Rob asked me to accompany him on an ATV “adventure” to his favourite place, Three Snye Rapids. After surviving the black flies, sand storms and tree branch obstacles, we arrived at the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen! We climbed on top of a massive boulder, perched above three flowing rapids. We sat and enjoyed the beautiful scenery, along with a picnic lunch packed by Rob. A couple of hours elapsed when Rob uncharacteristically asked if I would stand up and take a selfie picture with him. I must admit, this made me a little suspicious (Rob is certainly not the selfie taking type) but I agreed. I was about to sit back down when Rob grabbed my hand. He told me that I was the love of his life, that he would cherish me for eternity and that he couldn’t imagine growing old with anyone else. At that moment, I remember thinking “is Rob proposing to me right now?” That is when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes! When we returned from our adventure, his parents were waiting at the hunt camp with a beautiful dinner and our favorite bottle of champagne. We decided to keep our engagement a secret from my parents and my sister until we returned home. Needless to say, Rob had asked my parents permission months prior. My sister on the other hand, was completely surprised and excited!

When choosing the venue for our ceremony and reception, Rob and I knew we wanted to have it on our property. Our home in Clarksburg, on the Beaver River instantly became a very special place to us. Planning a wedding is a lot of work, especially when the venue is created from scratch. We quickly realized that we required some assistance and decided to hire Amanda with It’z Your Day to help us plan our wedding. With no delay, Amanda put us in contact with Laurie and Nemo from Art in Bloem. Collectively, we created a vision that became a dream wedding for Rob and me.

The most key factors we wanted to showcase to our family and friends is to experience great food, great entertainment and a whole lot of love and laughter.  When it came to plan our wedding, I was very excited to be involved in the overall process, especially the decor. Rob had the enormous responsibility of preparing the entire property for our wedding ceremony, cocktail hour and reception areas.

The day of the wedding was quite relaxing for Rob and I. Rob spent the day with his groomsmen at Blue Mountain Village before they arrived at our house to get dressed and photographed. My bridesmaids and I spent the day relaxing at Code Red Salon, getting our hair and makeup done. We knew our wedding was in good hands! The day after the wedding was spent reminiscing on all the great memories leading up to our wedding day and the wedding itself. We hosted a farewell brunch at Oliver & Bonacini Blue Mountain to thank our family and friends for joining us on the most memorable day of our lives.

The biggest stress of the wedding day was the weather. There was a sprinkle of rain early in the morning but my bridesmaids ensured me not to worry. They were right, it turned out to be a perfect day for a wedding.

One of my favorite memories of the day was when my sister (MOH) and Rob’s brother (Best Man) surprised us with a joint speech, accompanied with a projection screen of photos from our moms’ old photo albums. They managed to make everyone laugh and cry with their hilarious and sentimental speech. Ultimately, my favorite memory of the day was walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing Rob waiting for me with happy tears in his eyes and a big smile on his face. At that moment, I felt unconditional love and happiness!
