When people ask about our story, I always like to warn them - it is pretty cheesy!

I had just turned 19, and naturally wanted to go to the bar for the first time. I’ve heard the saying that you’ll never meet your husband in a bar, but guess what I did? That night I met the boy I’d one day marry. Later that week we went on our first date, and the rest is history.

Skip ahead to October 10th, 2017 when I had just finished my first day as a permanent teacher. Kyle wanted to take me out to celebrate at our favourite spot, Gibson & Co. It turns out that earlier, he had gone in and organized an elaborate proposal and everyone was in on it. He must have known I would order the charcuterie plate, because when it was delivered to our table, the ring was sitting right there on the cheese! I told you this would be a cheesy story! When I noticed the ring, he grabbed my hand, got on one knee and proposed! Our favourite song was playing and someone videotaped it all. It was so perfect.

Kyle and I attended the Georgian Bay Wedding Show in November 2017, and fell in love with the Alpine Ski Club venue. As we inquired further, our dream date (08/18/18) was available and we knew it was meant to be!

We wanted the focus of our wedding to be our true love story, and we were able to showcase it in everything from the music, to our vows, to the family speeches. I wanted the ceremony to feel classic and beautiful, and Art in Bloem gave us our perfect fairy tale setting, with stunning flowers and décor.

We also wanted to showcase the love for our family by having a memory wall of photos of the family members that couldn’t be there with us on our special day. I planned a first look with my Dad before the ceremony started, and with some tears, hugs and kisses and of course a dance down the aisle, my Dad and I shared this incredible experience that I know we’ll both remember forever. Our officiant, Kate of Georgian Triangle Weddings helped us plan a very special moment for our mothers as Kyle and I presented them each with a flower.

My wonderful wedding planner, Amanda Jerome and I planned the entire wedding, and I am certain Kyle did not mind. My husband organized suits for him and his groomsmen, so I will give him that. Other than that, it was all me! Since I did most of the wedding planning, I felt a lot of pressure leading up to the big day, however, because we hired the most amazing wedding planner, I was able to relax and watch everything go according to plan. She managed the day and reassured us that we were making the right choices all along the way. On the day of the wedding, I felt completely ready. I was so excited to seal the deal and finally be his wife!

The biggest stress of the day involved my sister-in-law who had her fifth baby the day before our wedding and unfortunately was not able to make it (with good reason!).  Her husband and other children were still able to attend which was incredible because their four boys were flower boys during our ceremony. It would not have been the same without them.

Following the wedding, Kyle and I lounged around in our hotel, opened our wedding cards and packed for our honeymoon. We purposely chose not to have a brunch or see anyone after the wedding, because we just wanted to spend the day together. The next morning, we left on our honeymoon.

In looking back, my favourite part of the day was our ceremony. From my Dad walking me down the aisle, to hearing Kyle’s vows for the first time, to putting on our wedding bands, to our first kiss as a married couple. It felt like time was standing still and there could not have been a more perfect moment.
