We meet in high school. Our lockers were near each other and we instantly became good friends.  When we began dating Neal was studying at the University of Waterloo. During the summer, he had an opportunity to work as a White-Water Rafting Guide in British Columbia and the following summer we moved to BC together to work for the same rafting company. We fell in love with the serene mountain lifestyle, envisioning it for our future together in Ontario.

We were enjoying our first BBQ of the year outside on our balcony. After dinner, when I had my back turned to him, Neal said my name and I turned to find him on one knee! I was completely surprised and couldn’t believe it was happening. Of course, I said yes!

Most our guests were from out of town, so we wanted to select a venue location that was convenient and centrally located, but most importantly we wanted an atmosphere that reflected our lifestyle. Craigleith Ski Club checked all the boxes and the space was incredible. We planned on having our ceremony outside, but luckily CSC provided an indoor ceremony location that was separate from our reception area. Our guests ended up loving our venue just as much as we did, it was perfect!

Our love for Georgian Bay was a constant factor throughout our plans. Our Save The Date was a sunset photo of the bay with a map of the area on the back, we took our engagement photos and had our first look on the Georgian Trail across from the bay, and we took our wedding photos at Peasemarsh Beach. Ultimately, we wanted our guests to enjoy a weekend away with us in the area we are fortunate to call home.

I took care of a lot of the creative planning. I had a vision and Neal gave me the freedom to choose our team to help us execute it. He was a lifesaver for running errands and picking up last minute things, like our wedding bands and mother’s jewellery at DC Taylor’s and the growlers for the groomsmen and kegs for our rehearsal dinner at Side Launch Brewery.

I felt overwhelmed the day before the wedding. Time creeps up fast and is very fleeting in the final weeks leading up to the wedding. The day of the wedding I felt ready, regardless of the last minute to do lists and neglected ideas. I was so excited the day was finally here and was thrilled to be surrounded by our family and friends.

Looking back now, I can’t believe that I never secured our rings for our sweet ring bearer. I ordered a custom wooden ring box online with our initials and date for him to carry. When it came time for the rings during our ceremony my heart sank when my band wasn’t in the box. Thankfully, I had a very sentimental piece of jewellery made that we ended up using for our ring exchange and our day of co-ordinator’s hubby found my band moments after the ceremony ended!

Our first look on the Georgian Trail and taking our wedding photos with our bridal party at Peasemarsh Beach was one of our favorite parts of the day.  It was important to us to be at the beach on our wedding day and have our bridal party with us made it that much better. It was also the best to celebrate our love with our family and friends as we danced the night away. It was truly a night we will never forget.
