Dakotah and I met while attending the Recreation and Leisure Services Program at Georgian College in 2010. It was at the first day of orientation that I had locked my eyes on him from a few rows away. There were two sections of the program and of course we were separated. It wasn’t until a few weeks later that we attended a teambuilding program that we truly “met”. The whole program was broken down into groups of 10 or so and guess what, we were in the same group and spent the whole week together! We finished out the semester in separate sections and then finished the year and a half of the program together and it has been that way ever since.
We spent the first two years of our relationship together at school every day. When we graduated in 2012 we decided to move in together. We quickly became a part of each other’s family and our lives grew together even more. We got our first puppy Bentlee in 2013 and became a family!
Dakotah proposed in his true fashion. We were engaged on December 21st 2013. He is not very good at surprises and just couldn’t hold off on his original plan to propose at Christmas! We were both off that day and woke up in a cuddly loving mood. He suggested that we make breakfast in bed and spend the day together at home. It was just minutes later that he called me back into our room and asked me to marry him!
The Falls Inn has always been a part of my dream wedding! As a young girl my grandparents lived at a farm in Walter’s Falls, and we visited the Inn often. When my Poppa passed away he was buried at the Walter’s Falls cemetery overlooking the falls and it meant so much to me that he could be there in spirit for the big day. When we became engaged, the Inn was the first and only location that we looked into. Meg, the owner, was so helpful and accommodating we knew right away that this was it.
We really wanted to showcase the natural beauty of the Inn and falls. The location is so spectacular for so many different reasons but just having the natural beauty was a huge part of making our wedding perfect
When it comes to the planning, I am not sure that wedding duties are ever divvied out, more like the bride plans her perfect wedding and the groom goes along for the ride! In our wedding plans Dakotah, was given the task of choosing all the food options. Other than that he was my sounding board and assistant! He had input of the men’s suits and provided his opinions on other important aspects of the wedding. I would say that he did a great job and was the perfect balance to my chaos.
The day before the wedding was probably my most anxious day. There were just so many overwhelming feelings from making sure everything from home was packed and made it to the Inn. After arriving at the Inn, we needed to get everything sorted and then wind down to complete the rehearsal and enjoy the amazing rehearsal dinner.
I would have to say that the day of the wedding I was actually quite calm, surprisingly! I just knew that there was nothing more that could be done to change anything and everything that we had planned would create the perfect day. Having the support of our family, wedding party and of course the amazing Falls Inn staff put me completely at ease!
The day after the wedding was so overwhelming, knowing that my almost two years of planning was now behind us, having to say goodbye to our family and friends after the wedding and leaving the Inn as man and wife!
The day was perfect, ultimately what I loved the most was being able to have all our friends and family together!
