Sean and I actually met on eHarmony! We were matched on May 12, 2010. Our first date was a couple of days later at a restaurant in Little Italy in Toronto and we were inseparable from that day forward. I had only been online for 1 week and was really nervous about it. From the day that we met, we knew that we had something special and things moved pretty quickly after that. Within a few short months we met families, friends and moved in together the following October. It was so refreshing to have someone in my life that thought all of the stupid things I did were funny and who loved me for being me. What I loved the most about Sean was his generosity. Our first Christmas together, Sean surprised me with a trip to Brazil!
The weekend after Thanksgiving 2013, Sean and I were at home watching TV and he asked me to come into the kitchen. To my surprise he was down on bended knee. I was so stunned that I can’t remember what he said, all I remember was him placing a green apple candy ring pop on my ring finger (because he wanted me to choose the ring I’d be wearing for the rest of my life).
Having our ceremony and reception on Blue Mountain at Craigleith Ski Club was a no brainer for us. I grew up in Calgary so most of my family was flying in from out of town and Sean grew up in Collingwood so a lot of his friends and family already live there. Since we started dating, I’ve fallen in love with Collingwood and it quickly became a home away from home that we wanted our loved ones to experience too.
The highlight of the day was the dove release after our wedding ceremony. This was a surprise from my mom. Sean and I had no idea that this was going to happen until the moment we released the doves! It was important that we had amazing food, drink and great music so that everyone would enjoy themselves. And I loved the flowers, our wedding arch and the bridesmaid’s dresses.
I have a background in event planning, so planning most of the wedding came very easy to me. But Sean, his parents and my bridesmaids were crucial as they helped me set everything up the night before. We got everything done in a couple of hours!
The day before the wedding, we had the rehearsal, rehearsal dinner and set everything up at the venue. I was so happy and was overwhelmed by a huge sense of accomplishment. I was overjoyed by the thought that one of my biggest childhood dreams was coming true. On the day of the wedding I was overcome with pure happiness! Several people told me to BE PRESENT and take in every moment. This was the best wedding advice I received and I really took in and cherished everything that happened that day. The day after, I was soooooo tired! But happier than ever. Sean was so loving and supportive. We actually kept looking at each other and saying “We Did It!”
Looking back, a favorite part of the day were the speeches, my husband prepared the most beautiful, heartfelt speech that brought tears to everyone’s eyes. My mother also had a moving speech that included props and items from my childhood. It truly was the best day of my life.
