We met at the bus stop in high school. It was Jodi’s freshman year and Nathan was in grade twelve. I could tell he liked me right away, he always smiled at me, tried talking to me but I never gave him the attention. Years went by and life went on. It was almost 9 or so years later when I received a Facebook friend request from him and after spending some time getting to know each other we quickly knew we had something very special between us.
We dated for about 4 years before officially getting engaged. We got our first apartment together summer of 2014. A year later we felt something was missing, we needed a companion to share life with and adopted our little dog Minnie. Summer 2016 was when Nathan officially popped the question. We love the outdoors and have spend the last few summers at my family cottage which is where Nathan proposed. I didn’t know it at the time but that would be one of the most memorable and special times at the family cottage. It was after dinner, we were sitting on the porch of one of the cabins with my brother and his girlfriend enjoying the heavy summer rain. Everyone seemed to be acting a little odd, but I didn’t think anything of it. I was asked to sit in a chair as my brother pretended to set up a shot with the camera. Awkwardly I obeyed and out of the corner of my eye I saw Nathan with the biggest grin ever walk up to me. He got down on one knee, held out a box and asks me to marry him. I was so caught off guard I asked him if he was serious twice in a row. After reassuring me this wasn’t a joke, I finally said “YES, of-course.” He had a token ring for me and told me as soon as we get home he was going to take me shopping to pick out my own ring! Best feeling ever. Best day ever. Best guy ever!!
After looking at several venue locations and visited Walters Falls my Mom and I quickly fell in love with it and just knew when Nathan saw it he would too. It was just a few years earlier he and I had been on a water fall hike and Walters Falls was one of our stops, so we had some special memories there to top off the decision. The views were breathtaking, and we wanted to share that with our loved ones. On top of the beauty the property has to offer, everyone at Walters Falls was welcoming and wonderful we felt like it was more than perfect.
The outdoor ceremony with the beautiful picturesque gardens, water fall and landscape of the property including the old barn on the property and music was very important to us. We included bible scripture and emphasis on the importance of marriage and love from Gods perspective. As faith is very important to us.
On the day of the wedding, Nathan said, “I experienced almost every emotion possible while staying focused on the main goal. As time passed my nerves became steady. And I was anxious and excited to watch my wife walk down the aisle and begin the rest of OUR life.” Jodi felt “extremely excited but extremely emotional. Lots of tears, mostly happy. I was very overwhelmed but could hardly wait to walk down the aisle to my soon to be husband. I felt like I was glowing and all I could think about was starting the next chapter to the rest of our life together.”
The biggest stress of the day was the time frame, hoping it all flowed well throughout the day and photos, dinner and sparklers were done in the proper time frames.
Our favorite part of the day was looking into each other’s eyes and saying our vows as well as our first two slow dances. I savoured every moment and forgot about everyone around us, and sparklers at the end!
